have you ever noticed that when children are playing make-believe--using their imaginations, rewriting the course of their lives for a few minutes--they never actually bother pretending to fulfill the plans they propose?
"okay, i'm fourteen years old and you're my twin."
"and our parents are dead."
"and we're going on a journey to the desert."
"but you didn't know that i was going to turn into a dolphin and attack you."
"but then you didn't attack me and i'm a person who loves all the animals in the whole world and now we're best friends."
"yeah, and then my leg fell off and you had to carry me."
they keep planning these things out: introducing new facets of their personalities, new superpowers, new family catastrophes, new adventures--the talk never ends, but these things never actually come to fruition. the children don't really take on these new roles as actors, but rather continue to add on to their crazy stories verbally as they casually walk about the yard or swim in the pool.
as i watched kids doing this today and thought to myself how funny it was, i realized that i used to do it, too.
maybe i'm just crazy and nobody even understands what the heck i'm talking about or why i think it's funny, but it amused me and i thought i'd share it. kids are funny.
this is david, a boy who makes me laugh very hard.

you explained that really well-little people are fascinating-maybe because they tend to be spontaneous, transparent, and unpretentious (spelling?).
is it true that you only allow two comments per post?
seems to be that way. ah, but i just broke the curse...
yay annie!
I am so glad you have a blog. Your pictures are beautiful. But, your words along with them make for a fantastic, exciting blog! I remember in writing club I always loved to hear your papers. They were always different and unique--out of the box. I like that. (:
your little conversation whether made up or one you've heard... made me smile real big sitting here in surgar magnolia.
you're clever girl. real clever.
oh, it wasn't exactly word for word, but i really did hear something along those lines. ;)
