a lack of adequate footwear

ya know how in shoe catalogs they'll show a lovely photograph of a lovely pair of shoes, followed by a brief, personified, sensual description and a list of available sizes? well, have y'ever noticed that the list of available women's sizes generally always reads like so: "whole and half sizes 6-10. no 9.5."

what the heck, yo.

my feet happen to prefer the comfortable dimensions of that elusive 9.5 whenever possible, but, more often than not, are totally dissed. that negative little statement at the end of each shoe description is like a little mocking snicker at the stubborn precision of my shoe size. "no 9.5. no, annie. no shoes for you."

there must be a logical reason for this. i really am curious. i'm sure all the shoe companies didn't just hold a convention and arbitrarily decide not to manufacture size 9.5 in practically any shoe style.

can any good soul enlighten me here?

i'm actually feeling a really good story behind this one. it's gotta be good. it's so good, i can't even begin to think what it might be. and that's the best kind of story.

you need to open a shoe store called 9.5

I understand exactly what you mean. As the companies snicker at your 9.5's, they don't even mention mine. the size 5 shoe is forgotten, completely alone. Maybe you should open a shoe store that sells only 9.5 and 5 size shoes. I would buy your shoes.

could you sell single shoes too? I've been plagued since birth with feet that are a whole size different. You know how when you buy a pair of shoes they always check both shoes to see if they match? That's because your grandmother used to switch the shoes and buy me two different sizes as one pair. I was little, but it did upset me. i knew it was wrong. But what could an eight year old do? I guess she wasn't the only mom, because they check in every store now....
