so, i know leif eriksson day was on the ninth (i remember it quite clearly; we celebrated with four chocolate cakes and an informative posterboard). i know this post is a bit overdue.
but my dear good sweet God-fearing christopher columbus--
you great man--
you courageous man--
you survivor of shipwreck!--
you explorer of oceans vast and lands questionably unknown--
the world is round, the world is round!--
who says you deserve the glory for discovering america? eh.
leif eriksson discovered it.
but besides him, the native americans were already there when columbus showed up.

i think you are an excellent man, mr. columbus, but you were, after all, just a second-place kind of guy.
in no way intending to dishonor the gallant italian, i think instead of (or perhaps in addition to) having columbus day, we should have the-strapping-young-men-who-built-the-three-infamous-ships-in-which-christopher-columbus-sailed day, because nobody ever mentions them. and how exactly would christopher columbus have sailed anywhere at all without them? thank you.

fine point made darling daughter! Let's write a letter in support of all builders everywhere, (including your dad) that we institute National Builders Day. None of them would actually get a paid day off,in fact it would hurt them financially as the postmen meant to be delivering client's checks for work done 90 days previously would have the day off, thereby making them go without cash for yet another day and you can't live off the pride of a job well done, but at least they'd feel appreciated. But not the boatbuilders of christobal's fine ships as they are, in fact, dead.
I didn't mean to make you depressed. That's what I dislike about it all.
Daily I think about how you travel forty-five minutes to these practices + games.
I'm sorry.
But, I'm glad I get to see you and play with you. (:
hey annie,
i think you would like the new radiohead album "in rainbows" that came out a few days ago. i'd be happy to burn you a copy.
